OPENING

Greetings everyone, I want to Thank for coming here today, it’s a nice day today and it’s nice to see people gathered together in the name of the Lord.

Matt 18:20 says,  "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (NKJ)

It’s so beautiful to come and be in the presence of the Lord where his Holy Spirit moves and gives encouragement, guidance knowledge and understanding.  His Spirit also brings correction that may not always be pleasant but it makes crooked paths straight, amen.

`````````````````
Optional TY all of you who are involved in the worship for leading us into God’s presence.  That’s what God has called for all of us to do, to praise and worship him for all his goodness, to praise him with all our hearts.
It’s always good to be in the presence of the Lord.
``````````````````````````

Ps 147:1 says, Praise the LORD! For it is good to sing praises to our God; for it is pleasant, and praise is beautiful. (NKJ)

We can praise him if for nothing else he has saved us from the pits of hell. AMEN

Prayer - Father bring to our attention all you would have us know, and give us insight into everything you would have us glean from your word today. Amen

THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT

This message is for only those who have accepted Jesus in their heart and life and therefore believe that Jesus is the Son of God and they also believe that the bible is the divine word of God.

2 Timothy 3:16  TELLS US, All Scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness, (NKJV)

Today we will be talking about, The baptism of the Holy Spirit, and what it means to have it in our lives.

Hopefully from God’s word we will see why it is so important for us to receive the BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, and we will see what God’s word tell us what it will do for us, and what we will be able to do for others around us.  We will find out that seeking and ultimately receiving God’s gift of the Baptism of the Holy Spirit, will enable us, empowers us, and build ourselves up, consequently we are able to make intercession for ourselves and others around us, and that it causes us to pray in the perfect will of God.  Also we will find out when and why we should seek it, the signs that follow those who are Baptized in the Holy Spirit and how we know those who have received the Baptism of the Holy Spirit and how the Baptism of the Holy Spirit helps each and every individual.

Let's look directly in God’s word and find out exactly why this subject is so vitally important to every believer.  Man can say this, and man can say that, but when we get right down to the bottom line (so to speak), it is what God’s word has to say that really counts, nothing supersedes God’s word.  God says he honors his word above all his name.  The Psalmist says in Psalms 138:2 I will worship toward Your holy temple, and praise Your name for your loving kindness and Your truth; for You have magnified Your word above all Your name. (NKJV)

Mankind can say many things, but he has limitations and can’t always do the things he says he is going to do, but that is not so with God, you can take what God says to the bank, (so to speak.)

Psalms 119:89 says, Forever, O LORD, your word is settled in heaven. (NKJV)

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

Going further into God’s word we are told what the Baptism of the Holy Spirit accomplishes. We read in,

1 Corinthians 14:2 and it says, For he who speaks in a tongues does not speak to men but to God, for no one understands him; however, in the spirit he speaks mysteries. (NKJ)

AND DROPING DOWN TO VERSE 4, 1 Cor 14:4

THE VERY FIRST PART OF THE VERSE SAYS, He who speaks in a tongue [[edifies]] himself, (NKJ)

That word edifies in the Strong’s Bible Dictionary is defined as,

3618  oikodomeo (oy-kod-om-eh'-o); from the same as 3619; to be a house-builder, i.e. construct or (figuratively) confirm: KJV-- (be in) building, up), edify, embolden.

Romans 8:26 Says, Likewise the Spirit also [[helps in our weaknesses]]. For we do not know what we should pray for as we ought, but the Spirit Himself [[makes intercession]] for us with groanings which cannot be uttered. (NKJ)

ALONG WITH ROMANS 8:26 Look at this.

Praying in the spirit (tongues) can make us stronger.

Jude 1:20 SAYS, But you, beloved, [[building yourselves up]] on your most holy faith, praying in the Holy Spirit, (NKJ)

--  ><>  --  --  ><>  --  --  ><>  --

Further down in 1 Corinthians 14: to verse 18   Paul said

I thank my God I speak with tongues more than you all;  (NKJ)

And in Romans 8:27 we are told, “Now He who searches the hearts knows what the mind of the Spirit is, because He makes intercession for the saints [[according to the will of God]]. (NKJ)

There are many times in the life of a believer when you may not know what God’s perfect will is in a certain circumstance. Praying in the spirit allows you to line up perfectly in God’s will.

Addressing the Question, Is the baptism of the Holy Spirit for me?

Here is the answer.  If you a believer, Jesus said and now I am reading a verse in the great commission Jesus gave.

Mark 16:17 "And these signs will follow those who believe: In My name they will cast out demons; they will speak with new tongues  (NKJ)

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

If you are a believer this is a sign that should be following you.

Jesus expects you, believer, to seek the baptism of the Holy Spirit.

LET’S READ THAT AGAIN Mark 16:17

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

The next question we will address is WHEN?

When should we seek the Baptism of the Holy Spirit?

 Again let’s look at an example in the bible, the word of God.

In Acts chapter eleven 11: verse 13 Peter is telling his Jewish friends what happened when he went to Cornelius house.

When he gets to Cornelius house Cornelius tells Peter,

Acts chapter 11 verse 13 "And he told us how he had seen an angel standing in his house, who said to him, 'Send men to Joppa, and call for Simon whose surname is Peter,

14 'who will tell you words by which you and all your household will be saved.'

And Peter goes on to tell his friends what happened at Cornelius house.

15 "And as I began to speak, the Holy Spirit fell upon them, as upon us at the beginning.

16 "Then I remembered the word of the Lord, how He said, 'John indeed baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.'

Next Verse 17A "If therefore God gave them the same gift as He gave us [[when we believed]] on the Lord Jesus Christ, (NKJ)

Take note here, there is no waiting period to receive the gift, verse 17 says quote “when we believed” and Peter reminds his friends what happened with all of them when they believed, next verse, Acts 11:17

In verse 17 Peter said (the gift of the Holy Spirit) was given "when we believed"

So If you are a believer the time is NOW,

THERE IS NO WAITING PEROID.

Now that was Peter, now LETS look at Paul THIS IS WHAT HAPPENED WITH HIM.

Acts chapter 19:verse 1 And it happened, while Apollos were at Corinth, that Paul, having passed through the upper regions, came to Ephesus. And finding some disciples

2 he said to them, "Did you receive the Holy Spirit when you believed?" So they said to him, "We have not so much as heard whether there is a Holy Spirit."

3 And he said to them, "Into what then were you baptized?" So they said, "Into John's baptism."

4 Then Paul said, "John indeed baptized with a baptism of repentance, saying to the people that they should believe on Him who would come after him, that is, on Christ Jesus."

5 When they heard this, they were baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

6  And when Paul had laid hands on them, the Holy Spirit came upon them, and they spoke with tongues and prophesied. (NKJ)

LETS RECALL WHAT WAS SAID OVER IN LUKE

Luke chapter 11:verse 9 SAYS, "So I say to you, ask, and it will be given to you; seek, and you will find; knock, and it will be opened to you.

The next verse Luke 11:10 "For everyone who asks receives, and he who seeks finds, and to him who knocks it will be opened.

Luke 11:13 "If you then, being evil, know how to give good gifts to your children, how much more will your heavenly Father give the Holy Spirit to those who ask Him!" (NKJV)  Praise God.

THIS IS A TEACHING EXAMPE OF HOW ONE PERSON HAS LEAD MANY TO RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT.

THIS PERSON HAPPENS TO BE MY FORMER PASTOR AND TEACHER, DR. CHET SAPINO, AND HE LED MANY TO RECEIVE THE BAPTISM OF THE HOLY SPIRIT IN THE FOLLOWING MANNER.

READING THESE SCRIPTURES IN THE BOOK OF ACTS.

Acts chapter 2:verse 4 and following  “And they were all filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

AND THEN GOING TO CHAPTER 8 DOWN TO VERSE 14

Acts 8:14  Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them, NOW ON TO THE Next verse, and we will continue to read verses 16, 17, & 18

Acts 8:15  who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

Acts 8:16  For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

Acts 8:17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit.

SO HOW DID THEY KNOW THEY RECEIVED THE HOLY SPIRIT BAPTISM?

IN Acts chapter 10:verse 46 IT TELLS US, For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

ARE YOU OPEN TO RECEIVE?

PRAY: PRAY A PRAYER TO THE LORD. GIVE YOUR LIFE COMPLETELY TO JESUS. ASK HIM TO SEARCH YOUR HEART FOR ANY UNCONFUSED SIN, SAY " LORD I WILL DO WHATEVER YOUR HOLY SPIRIT DIRECTS ME TO DO."

THEN: RAISE YOUR HANDS UP AND SAY " LORD JESUS PLEASE BAPTISE ME IN THE HOLY SPIRIT.

I WANT TO SPEAK IN TONGUES RIGHT NOW.

THANK YOU FOR FILLING ME WITH THE HOLY SPIRIT."

I want to thank Dr. Sapino for sharing this with me.

IF FOR ANY REASON YOU ARE HAVING A PROBLEM RECEIVING THE GIFT OF THE HOLY SPIRIT, IN PAT ROBERTSON’S BOOK

The Answers to 200 Of Life’s Most Probing Questions, the late Dr. Robertson answers the Question, What is the baptism in the Holy Spirit? and, How do I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

THIS IS GOOD BACKGROUND INFORMATION,

I WOULD LIKE TO SHARE IT WITH YOU RIGHT NOW, HE EXPLAINS,

The baptism in the Holy Spirit is the empowering for service that takes place in the life of the Christian.  It can take place at the moment of faith in Christ as in the case of the first Gentile convert, Cornelius; but traditionally and experientially it follows repentance, saving faith, and baptism (see Hebrews chapter 6:verses 1-2).  It enables a believer to witness to the Lord’s salvation and to demonstrate one or more of the nine gifts, or manifestations, of the Holy Spirit.  Just as the indwelling Spirit reproduces the life of Jesus, the outpoured, or baptizing, the Spirit reproduces the ministry of Jesus.

To illustrate, if I had a glass of water and took a swallow, then the water would be inside me.

If, on the other hand, I went down the beach and stepped into the ocean, then I would be in the water.  We receive, as it were, a drink of the Spirit when we are saved, but when we are baptized in the Spirit, it is as if that initial drink becomes an ocean that completely surrounds us.

When we give ourselves to Jesus, the Holy Spirit comes to live within us.  The Holy Spirit places us into Jesus.  In turn, Jesus immerses us in the power of the Holy Spirit, and from this experience comes the ability to reproduce the works of Jesus, including miracles and healings.

Just as there are nine attributes of the fruit of the Spirit, there are nine gifts of the Spirit.  Before He ascended into heaven Jesus said, “John truly baptized with water, but you shall be baptized with the Holy Spirit.”  He also said, ‘You shall receive power when the Holy Spirit has come upon you; and you shall be witnesses to Me.”

When the day of Pentecost came Jesus apostles were all together in the same house.  There was the sound of a mighty wind, and the then tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.

In subsequent instances, this showed that they had been empowered to witness for the Lord.

Second, their higher speech centers had been brought under the control of Jesus Christ.  As James said, “If anyone does not stumble in word, he is a perfect man.”  The tongues of these people had been brought under the Lord’s control.  Finally, by the words they spoke, they were able to do miracles.  That is because the spoken word brings about healings, miracles, and the works of power that Jesus did.  All of this is encompassed in the baptism in the Holy Spirit.

NOW HERE IS Pat Robertson’s response pertaining to,

How do I receive the baptism in the Holy Spirit?

“You need to do a number of things in order to receive this blessing.

First you need to be born again.  The person who is going to be filled with the Spirit must have the indwelling Spirit and must belong to Jesus.

The second thing you have to do is ask.  The Bible says, “Ask, and it will be given to you.”

The third thing you have to do is surrender.  The apostle Paul made this need clear in the book of Romans when he said, “Present your bodies a living sacrifice.”

Fourth, you must be willing to obey the Spirit.  God does not give this power to someone then say, “You can take the part you like and leave the part you do not like.”  If you want to be immersed into the Spirit, you need to be prepared to obey the Spirit.

Fifth, you need to believe; you need to respond in a biblical fashion.

The Bible says those baptized with the Holy Spirit Holy Spirit on the day of Pentecost “began to speak with other tongues, as the Spirit gave them utterance.  This means they spoke the words that the Spirit gave them.  The Holy Spirit gave the words, but the apostles and disciples voluntarily responded.  There was action based on faith, not merely passive acceptance for the blessing.

For example, suppose someone came to me and asked, “Could you let me have a dollar?” and I said “Certainly,” Then I reached into my pocket and handed him a dollar.  What if he just looked at me and said, “you don’t understand.  I’m terribly desperate.  May I please have a dollar?”  But what if, instead of taking it, he said, “Oh, please, don’t you see I’m starving?  Let me have a dollar.”  We could keep that up forever!  The person would go without, and my arm would grow tired of handing him the dollar.  He would never receive it, and I would never give it.  But the minute he said, “Thank you,” took the dollar, and put it in his pocket, that would be the moment the blessing was received.  That is the way it is with God.

God is offering the baptism in the Holy Spirit to people who need only to reach out and take it and then enjoy the blessing.

What I just read you was taken from Pat Robertson’s book Titled

The Answers to 200 Of Life’s Most Probing Questions.

Some time ago I received this e-mail teaching from Dr. Chet Sapino and I would like to share it with everyone.  Dr. Sapino’s e-mail said this.

If you received the baptism in the Holy Spirit as the early church believers did in the Book of Acts (See Acts chapter 2 for details, you have the ability to speak in tongues at will. This is a powerful gift. Also see these references to the baptism in the Holy Spirit and he references: Acts 8:14, 10:46, 11:1-8, and 19:6. Also he says see Luke 11:9-13).  And he goes on to say,

I believe this is one of the most powerful gifts of the Holy Spirit in existence. Jesus saved it for us as the last gift sent to his people.

If you don’t have this gift operating you, then you MUST seek it with all diligence. It is for you.

If you do have this gift, you can activate the power of the Holy Spirit at will to heal all of your diseases and infirmities.  It takes perseverance in this gift to achieve results. There are also an abundance of other benefits associated with this gift enabling you to move in the realm of the miraculous.

Here is a key verse for you today illustrating healing for you through praying in the Spirit:

 Romans 8:26   Likewise the Spirit also helpeth our infirmities: for we know not what we should pray for as we ought: but the Spirit itself maketh intercession for us with groanings which cannot be uttered.

Next verse 27  And he that searcheth the hearts knoweth what is the mind of the Spirit, because he maketh intercession for the saints according to the will of God. (KJV)

Do you see the word infirmities?  Do you know what this word means?

Here is what the original Greek says about the word:

Disease, Diseased, Infirmity, Sick, Sickly, Sickness, Weak, Weakened, Weaker, Weakness feebleness (of body or mind); by implication malady; moral frailty :- disease, infirmity, sickness, weakness.

This is taken from the Strong's Greek & Hebrew Dictionary.

When you pray in tongues, also known as praying in the Holy Spirit, you are manifesting His power because every word you are speaking IS the voice of the Holy Spirit. He prays through you. He gives the utterance. This is evidenced in Acts 2:  “....they all spoke in tongues as the Spirit gave the utterance....” It is the Spirit providing the utterance.

You are also praying in the perfect will of God and you will always get answers to your prayers. It is also impossible to pray in doubt and/or unbelief because you do not know what you are saying. You are bypassing your intellect. As a friend of mine said, “you cannot screw it up!”

This phenomena has been studied by fMRI (functional MRI) and a certain area of your brain lights up and your normal speech center shuts down.

Now Matthew 8:17 says, He Himself (referring to Jesus) took our infirmities and bore our sicknesses. It was done on the cross. So in the mind of the Spirit, your healing has been accomplished by Jesus. It’s yours. Receive it by faith by praying in the Spirit.

Dr Sapino goes on to say, As a matter of personal testimony, I enCOUNTered a very dangerous allergen years ago when I worked for Bristol Myers. I was a research director at the time working in drug research and development. As a result I got some very serious allergies. At times I had to get shots of adrenaline, it was so serious. I had allergy problems just walking into the facility. This issue was highly alarming. I took this problem to Jesus and prayed in the Spirit everyday for about a month at which time the allergies subsided and vanished. That was way back in the mid seventies.

I can’t tell you how many times I have been delivered from stuff by praying in the Spirit.

You can also bring deliverance to people by laying hands on them and praying in the Spirit. Many times, one or more of the other 8 gifts of the Spirit manifest he references (1 Corinthians chapter 12) when you take a step of faith like this.

Dr. Sapino says, I have several other teachings on this subject if you are interested.             Blessings on you,  Chet
