B/N 14  (***) Curses  personal, generational  35 min read Easter Sunday 2026 45 mins 4-10-26

Welcome – Greetings to everyone it’s a nice day today.

TY all of you for coming here it’s so nice to see people gathered together in the name of the Lord.

Jesus said in Matt 18:20  "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." (NKJ)       Jesus is in our midst right now how about that.

PRAY Father - Let us glean from your word and give us understanding, and insight into all you would have us know and understand today.  Amen ---

Today, We will be looking at the power of words, words are powerful.  Words can be used for good and bless us, and they can also be used in a negative sense and cause curses.  In the beginning God spoke all his creation into existence, the earth, the water, the land, day and night, everything on earth, the vegetation and mankind.  Genesis chapter 1 give us an account of all that, let’s look briefly at what God said.

Gen C1:V1 reads  In the beginning God created the heavens and the earth.

2        The earth was without form, and void; and darkness was on the face of the deep. And the Spirit of God was hovering over the face of the waters.

V3     Then God SAID, "Let there be light"; and there was light.

4        And God saw the light, that it was good; and God divided the light from the darkness.

V5 God called the light Day, and the darkness He called Night. So the evening and the morning were the first day.

verse 6          Then God SAID, "Let there be a firmament in the midst of the waters, and let it divide the waters from the waters."

7        Thus God made the firmament, and divided the waters which were under the firmament from the waters which were above the firmament; and it was so.

8        And God called the firmament Heaven. So the evening and the morning were the second day. (NKJ)

Gen C1:V9          Then God SAID, "Let the waters under the heavens be gathered together into one place, and let the dry land appear"; and it was so.

V10   And God called the dry land Earth, and the gathering together of the waters He called Seas. And God saw that it was good.

Gen C1:V11          Then God SAID, "Let the earth bring forth grass, the herb that yields seed, and the fruit tree that yields fruit according to its kind, whose seed is in itself, on the earth"; and it was so. (NKJ)

We have covered eleven verses of chapter 1 of Genesis  and in the following verses of Genesis chapter 1 God continues on with his creation and we are given the details and results of the rest of what God SAID and did in his creation.

In the beginning God spoke the earth into existence with words all of creation came into existence by God speaking it into existence the same way.

The point here is, spoken words are powerful, wouldn’t you agree?  After all in the beginning God spoke his creation into existence by words.

These words were all positive.

But there can be another side of spoken words that bring negative results and cause things to happen that are not good and we would never want them in our life.

They are called curses, words can bless or words can be curses.

So how do curses come about, well mostly they are spoken into existence.

The American Heritage Dictionary defines the word curse among other things as,

a. An appeal, or prayer for evil or misfortune to befall someone or something. Adding further

2. A source or cause of evil; a scourge:

3. A profane word or phrase; a swearword.

1. To invoke evil or misfortune upon; to damn.

2. To swear at: cursed the car because it wouldn't start.

3. To bring evil upon; to afflict: (ex) was cursed with crippling arthritis.

4. Ecclesiastically To put under a ban or excommunicate.

To utter curses; to swear.

Well where do they come from, one way is, the practice of Witchcraft, which can put curses on people and things.

Another very common way is, we ourselves can make negative statements causing curses on ourselves and others by making those negative statements about ourselves and others.

We ourselves can say things that we may not think don’t matter, or doesn’t   mean anything, oh but in reality they do.  The words we speak are powerful; they have meaning, they have a heavy impact on ourselves and others.

Many times they are negative things said that don’t line up with Gods word, meaning we can say things that are just the opposite of what God’s word says about us and others and when we speak these things we are putting curses upon ourselves we are saying things that are the opposed of what God tells us we are.

For instance, you might say “I am weak, God tells us to be strong in him,  and in the power of his might, Eph 6:10 says, Finally, my brethren, be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might.

Here is another example, I can’t remember anything, but God word says that you have power love and a sound mind.  2 Tim 1:7 says, For God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound mind.

Another example is, I’m always tripping or falling down, there is also a country song that says, “if it weren’t for bad luck I’d have no luck at all.”

Or you might say, every time I try to do thus and such this unfortunate thing happens to me.

Yes, if you say these things, you are speaking these things in to existence and what you called in is powerful, it will get into your heart and mind and manifested itself into your life.

Norvel Hayes In his book titled, How to Live and Not Die says this, “Your world is Formed By Your Words.  That to me is a profound statement let me repeat that again, “Your world is Formed By Your Words.”

Norvel goes on to say, the Holy Spirit will perform the scriptural words of anyone who says them and obeys them.  God is a Spirit and God performs words.  Another statement that Norvel said stands out, Your whole world is made out of your words.  You put yourself in the kind of world you’re living in today – rich, poor, healthy, sickly or whatever – with your mouth, He goes on to say, I didn’t say someone else’s mouth; your mouth put you there.  Always remember this: you are your own worse enemy – not someone else, you.    -  Norvel Hayes

Negative words do not only affect you yourself, you have others that might have said things they shouldn’t have said, perhaps the others might be from a generation before you, they are referred to as generational curses.

What are generational curses and what should a person do about them?  Here is one example of a generational curse.

For example You might say, my mother had arthritis so I think I have it now because I feel the same way.  By saying that you bought that into existence, it now belongs to you, or my father had cancer, heart disease, and the list goes on and on, and if you say these things about yourself, it looks like I am getting it too, well it’s yours, you just accepted it, you said so yourself and sure enough you have it, it has passed on to you.  That statement says you accept it, it’s mine you have opened the door for that to manifest itself in your life.

Spoken words are powerful, they can be a blessing or, they can be a curse.

The word of God says in Proverbs 12:14 A man will be satisfied with good, by the fruit of his mouth,

Proverbs 21:23 says, Whoever guards his mouth and tongue keeps his soul from troubles.

In the New Testament Jesus said in, Matthew 12:37 "For by your words you will be justified, and by your words you will be condemned.”

You can’t go much higher than that, Jesus said this.

That verse puts almost everything in prospective, these things we have been talking about so far.  Lets Read that again Matt 12:37

--  ><>  --  ><>  --  <><  --  <><  --

We have briefly identified some examples of positive and negative words, negative words meaning, calling things into existence that we don’t want to have come to pass.

What would be the positive thing to say or do if these things have already been said, what can we do about it?

If what was said is the opposite of what you want to happen, you can break that curse in the name of Jesus.  Yes.

Even if you are a brand new Christian that meaning if you have just accepted Jesus in your heart and life, Romans 10:9&10 that if you confess with your mouth the Lord Jesus and believe in your heart that God has raised Him from the dead, you will be saved.  The explanation in V10 For with the heart one believes unto righteousness, and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. (NKJ)  and you don’t know what God has said about you, you are unfamiliar with God’s word, know this, he doesn’t want you to be cursed.  God always wants good things for his children he never wants his children disabled and living in poverty and sickness and disease he doesn’t want to have children who are oppressed in any way.

He wants his children to be free and blessed beyond measure.

In Matthew 18:18 Jesus said this, "Assuredly, I say to you, whatever you bind on earth will be bound in heaven, and whatever you loose on earth will be loosed in heaven.

What would be the positive thing to say and do if you have any curses in your family or life?

Go to prayer, bind up those curses, cast those curses down, and cancel them out, call them null and void and send them to the cross in the name of Jesus.   This doesn’t have to be done with exactly these words but be sure you cast down all negative things and you call them null and void in Jesus name.

God doesn’t want bad things to happen to you, and you certainly don’t want bad things to happen to yourself either.

We can break those curses, negative things we have put on ourselves or that others may have put on us or on our families.

Let me give you a personal example: In my case I broke a generational curse concerning the heart.

In a conversation one day with one of my cousins I have several cousins, it was pointed out to me that several people in out family had died from bad hearts.  They started out by mentioning our grandfather died of heart failure, our uncle Henry had a bad case of arthritis but died of heart failure, and our uncle Karl died of heart failure, my mother had a weak heart diagnosed as cartomyapathoty and died from heart failure. My cousin said, you know they all had that Koistinen heart, they were all Koistinen’s, on my mothers side of the family they were Finish, our grandfather came from Finland my mothers maiden name was Koistinen.

I tell you after my cousin told me this I went to prayer, I broke that generational curse in Jesus name, I cast it down and cancel it out, and called it null and void and said it stops right here and right now in the name of Jesus.  The word of God the bible tells us to cast down all imaginations and thoughts that don’t line up with God’s word.

In 2 Corinthians 10:5 it says, Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ; (KJV)

Since my cousin made that statement to me I realized that others in the family might have said similar things, things that should not have been said.   Somewhere someone in the family had spoken a curse probably most likely unknowingly and it had affected many in the family.   I am told that generational curses can skip a generation, I really don’t know if that is possible, if it is right or wrong, but what I do know is that through prayer, without a doubt, all generational curses can be broken, anything spoken that doesn’t line up with God’s word or your will, needs to be cast down and canceled out and is not to be accepted.  All negative things that don’t line up with God’s word let them not be uttered out of your mouth.

Matthew 15:11 says, "Not what goes into the mouth defiles a man; but what comes out of the mouth, this defiles a man." (NKJ)

And verse 18 Matthew 15:18 says, "But those things which proceed out of the mouth come from the heart, and they defile a man.

The devil is always there to put bad thoughts in your mind, but don’t utter them least they get in your heart.  Don’t utter anything out of your mouth that you don’t want to happen that doesn’t line up with God’s word.

We can be our own worst enemy by saying negative words.

James 1:26 says, If anyone among you thinks he is religious, and does not bridle his tongue but deceives his own heart, this one's religion is useless.

Further on in James it says this, James 3:8 But no man can tame the tongue. It is an unruly evil, full of deadly poison.

3:V9     With it we bless our God and Father, and with it we curse men, who have been made in the similitude of God.

3:V10 it says,  Out of the same mouth proceed blessing and cursing. My brethren, these things ought not to be so. (NKJ)

So in James we find out, “Out of your own mouth you curse yourselves.”

The late Rev. Jean Isbell in her booklet titled Curse The Curses points out,

Satan comes in through your thoughts and your ear and eye gates.  Guard them well.  Garbage in – garbage out.  Rock music is a subtle, clever tool of Satan to destroy all Christian thinking.  Satan is using rock music to destroy all Christian principles in the lives of those who get addicted to it.

The Rev. Jean Isbell

Break all general curses back to the third and forth generation and send them somewhere, personally I like to send them to the cross in Jesus name.

In learning to control our mouths for the glory of God

Blake Long's avatar Jan 09, 2026 says this,

The words we speak not only have meaning, but have a lasting effect, good or bad. Though we should understand this, we don’t pay it enough attention. Perhaps that’s due to neglect or, worse, willful ignorance. Our speech matters greatly.

One of the best ways of controlling our speech is ensuring we don’t speak as much as our flesh would like to.  -  Blake Long

I would like to share with you some Quotable QUOTES I’ve heard over the past years.  First one

IF SATAN CAN PLAY WITH YOUR MIND AND GET YOU TO SPEAK HIS THOUGHTS, YOU COULD WIND UP WITH PROBLEMS.

YOUR PRAYING AND SAYING MUST BE THE SAME.

YOUR SAYING CAN CANCEL OUT YOUR PRAYERS.

Oh, Who would ever knowely want to do that but sometimes we do say the wrong things, spoken things bring results. Anyway going on Charles Capps says, SAY WHAT GOD SAYS IN HIS WORD.    CHARLES CAPPS

Another Charles Capps quote:  THE DEVIL CAN PUT THOUGHTS IN YOUR MIND.  BUT DON'T SPEAK THEM, LEAST THEY GET IN YOUR HEART.  CHARLES CAPPS

This is a Fred Price senior quote:  WHEN YOUR CONFESSION AGREES WITH GOD'S WORD, YOU WILL GET WHAT YOUR ASKING FOR.       FRED PRICE

This is a Gloria Copland quote:  LET THE WORDS OF YOUR MOUTH AGREE WITH WHAT YOU WANT TO COME TO PASS.            GLORIA COPLAND

Pastor Joel Osteen says, You can't go around with a negative mouth and expect to live a positive life.

I don’t know where I got this next statement from but it is so good I must share it with you.

Don’t speak curses over your body if you want to walk in health.

You have the Devil on one side of you and God on the other side and you’re in the middle. Whichever way you turn, that is the way it will be established. You either agree with God or you can agree with the Devil.

Remember, If you mistakenly say something negative that you would never want happen to you, you bind the hands of Jesus, you pronounce a curse on yourself, immediately cast it down and send that confession to the cross in Jesus name.

Now - Concerning Curses: here are some things God has shared in his Rhema Word to the church  @RMMI

5-14-2006 pm service  (second word) the evening service

etc.. among other things, “ That you do not allow the enemy any open doors whatsoever to come in and to cause delays, but that you line up yourself with me, that your confession lines up with my word, and that you speak only my word. For the enemy is waiting to try and destroy those whom he can, but he cannot destroy those who watch their mouth, for he uses your mouth so many times and yet my children do not understand the fullness of how important it is to only speak my word. For it is my word that brings the end results that you desire, etc..

this on [ :: 11-26-2017 am service  ::  ::  ::] another rhema word

etc  But at times you speak forth negative things and you do not want those things to come to pass, but I tell you, as I have told you before, the things that you speak forth out of your mouth shall come to pass.  Will you speak forth blessings, or will you speak forth curses over your life?  You do not want some of those things, saith your Father etc

-  ><>  --  ><>  --  <><  --  <><  -

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

The Psalmist says  "Set a watch at my mouth and a guard at my lips." That is (Ps. 141 verse 3)

Proverbs 18:21 says, Death and life are in the power of the tongue, and those who love it will eat its fruit. (NKJ)

--  ><>  --  ><>  --  <><  --  <><  --

In summary let us all say positive things, things that line up with God and his word to us.  If we make a mistake and say things that don’t line up with God and his word, cast them down and cancel them out.

If you have any generational curses in you family, break them, cast them down, call them null and void in the name of Jesus, put a stop to them ever happening any more.

Thank you all for coming here today, I would urge you all to, Study God’s word; learn all the wonderful things he says about you, he wants you blessed and not cursed.

You have all been very patient thank you all for allowing me to share this time with you and telling you what God has laid on my heart. Have a nice (day, evening).

PRAYER. This is Lee’s version of Numbers 6:24 through 26 using the word [us] instead of you] why, because I want to be included:

Numbers 6:24 "The LORD bless [us] you and keep [us] you;

25 the LORD make His face shine upon [us] you, and be gracious to [us] you;

26 the LORD lift up His countenance upon [us] you, and give [us] you peace." '  AMEN

----- If anyone would like prayer the altar is open, pastors are here to pray for you.
