Greetings to everyone. It’s nice to see people gathered together in the name of the Lord.

The bible says, "For where two or three are gathered together in My name, I am there in the midst of them." Matt 18:20 (NKJ) (So Jesus is in our midst)

PRAYER Father - Let us glean from your word and give us understanding, and insight into all you would have us know and understand. Amen ---

Today we will be talking about Supernatural happenings in the (BOA) Book of Acts.

\\Throughout the book of Acts God performed miracles and meets the needs of people through Ordinary people involving them in extra ordinary events.

Lets take a look at some of them.

\\I’ve mentioned this before but it bears mentioning again.

The book of Acts is a sequel to the life of Christ in the Gospels, which of course are Matthew, Mark, Luke and John.

The word sequel is defined as - anything that follows from something else; a development or a consequence or a result.

What we are covering here today certainly have these elements.

The book of Acts records the spread of Christianity from Jerusalem to Rome.

Previous in the book of Acts the Holy Spirit had only been poured out on the Jewish people but at this point in time, as we look further on in the book of Acts we will be looking at the rest of us, that being the Gentiles which pertains to most of us we come into the picture.

We are CONTINUING ON Now as God Expands his Church.

We come to chapter 10 and God gives Peter another opportunity to share with others God’s goodness and expand his gospel, and proclaim the good news to another group that will now include everyone on earth, Jew and Gentile alike. This is good news for me and others who are gentiles, this is where the kingdom of God is extended to us. If you are not Jewish, this comes to the point where you and I are INCLUDED. In Acts chapter 10, the spread of Christianity for all mankind becomes recognized at this point.

Yes, there was an earlier incident where Christ was preached in Samara and the first non-Jews received the Holy Spirit, we will read about that.

Acts 8:14 Now when the apostles who were at Jerusalem heard that Samaria had received the word of God, they sent Peter and John to them,

Next verse 15 who, when they had come down, prayed for them that they might receive the Holy Spirit.

16 For as yet He had fallen upon none of them. They had only been baptized in the name of the Lord Jesus.

17 Then they laid hands on them, and they received the Holy Spirit. (NKJ)

\\Now we are going into chapter 10 of the Book of Acts.

Chapter 10 starts out by telling us, who Cornelius is, and his vision, and the action he takes, sending out a delegation to go to Peters house.

In the mean time while this delegation is headed in the direction of Peters house, God gives Peter a vision. The next day Peter goes to Cornelius house and a tremendous miracle takes place.

\\We’ll go into the word and see how this all transpires. We’ll start out with Cornelius vision. I am reading now out of the New King James translation. Acts chapter 10 verse 1 and following. There was a certain man in Caesarea called Cornelius, a centurion of what was called the Italian Regiment.

Now there is a comment in my bible, in the notes section about verse 1 and it says

A centurion was a noncommissioned Roman military officer who was responsible for a hundred men. Now there can be more than that in a group, but the minimum was 100 men. Continuing on about Cornelius,

On to Verse 2 a devout man and one who feared God with all his household, who gave alms generously to the people, and prayed to God always.

\\And a comment in my bible about this verse 2 goes on further to explain Although he was not a Jewish proselyte, Cornelius believed in Jewish monotheism and ethical teachings. In spite of the fact that he was devout, he still needed to hear the way of salvation.

This is what transpires. Chapter 10 Verse 3 starts out with Cornelius vision.

10 Verse 3 About the ninth hour of the day he saw clearly in a vision an angel of God coming in and saying to him, "Cornelius!"

4 And when he observed him, he was afraid, and said, "What is it, lord?" So he said to him, "Your prayers and your alms have come up for a memorial before God.

\\Take note of how important it is to communicate with God in prayer. Prayer is one of the two things mentioned here that got God’s attention. God took note of this, and moved upon Cornelius’s prayers.

The late Charles Capps makes this remark about prayer. He says PRAYER IS FELLOWSHIPPING WITH THE FATHER. I like that remark.

We are in chapter 10 now at Verse 5 and following "Now send men to Joppa, and send for Simon whose surname is Peter.

6 "He is lodging with Simon, a tanner, whose house is by the sea. He will tell you what you must do."

7 And when the angel who spoke to him had departed, Cornelius called two of his household servants and a devout soldier from among those who waited on him continually.

8 So when he had explained all these things to them, he sent them to Joppa.

\\Now we are down to verse 9 and find Peter has a vision.

9 The next day, as they went on their journey and drew near the city, Peter went up on the housetop to pray, about the sixth hour.

10 Then he became very hungry and wanted to eat; but while they made ready, he fell into a trance

11 and saw heaven opened and an object like a great sheet bound at the four corners, descending to him and let down to the earth.

12 In it were all kinds of four-footed animals of the earth, wild beasts, creeping things, and birds of the air.

13 And a voice came to him, "Rise, Peter; kill and eat."

14 But Peter said, "Not so, Lord! For I have never eaten anything common or unclean."

15 And a voice spoke to him again the second time, "What God has cleansed you must not call common."

Verse 16 This was done three times. And the object was taken up into heaven again.

\\Now a Comment in my Spirit Filled Life Bible explains Peters vision.

Three times Peter saw a vision of ritually unclean animals, and each time a heavenly voice insisted that he eat them in violation of his Jewish convictions. This triple vision was intended to show Peter that God is not a respecter of persons. And that he should readily accompany the strangers downstairs to the residence of their Gentile master. Peter probably would not have visited Cornelius’s home if, God had not spoken to him so directly.

\\In this next section of chapter 10 Peter is Summoned to Caesarea

Acts 10:17 Now while Peter wondered within himself what this vision which he had seen meant, behold, the men who had been sent from Cornelius had made inquiry for Simon's house, and stood before the gate.

18 And they called and asked whether Simon, whose surname was Peter, was lodging there.

19 While Peter thought about the vision, the Spirit said to him, "Behold, three men are seeking you.

20 "Arise therefore, go down and go with them, doubting nothing; for I have sent them."

\\Gary Kinnaman BA MA senior pastor of Word of Grace Church Mesa Az makes a comment about this portion of scripture. (I’m very fond of Az and I like Phoenix and the east valley, Tempe and the Mesa area, wanted to live there but things didn’t work out that way.) \\I would like to make a remark about this time. When it comes to comments the things that I am commenting about are always taken from others. Nothing I have to say is original, even if it is given by the Spirit, many times, the chances are, that the Spirit has also shared it with others. I want you to know, I don't have a corner on the market of anything I am talking about, nothing original. I have either seen it, or read it, or heard about it from others.

Now Continuing on in chapter 10 at verse 21 Then Peter went down to the men who had been sent to him from Cornelius, and said, "Yes, I am he whom you seek. For what reason have you come?"

22 And they said, "Cornelius the centurion, a just man, one who fears God and has a good reputation among all the nation of the Jews, was divinely instructed by a holy angel to summon you to his house, and to hear words from you."

\\We are still here in chapter 10 and now we are at verse 23 where Peter meets Cornelius

23 Then he invited them in and lodged them. On the next day Peter went away with them, and some brethren from Joppa accompanied him.

24 And the following day they entered Caesarea. Now Cornelius was waiting for them, and had called together his relatives and close friends.

Verse 25 tells us As Peter was coming in, Cornelius met him and fell down at his feet and worshiped him.

26 But Peter lifted him up, saying, "Stand up; I myself am also a man."

27 And as he talked with him, he went in and found many who had come together.

28 Then he said to them, "You know how unlawful it is for a Jewish man to keep company with or go to one of another nation. But God has shown me that I should not call any man common or unclean.

29 "Therefore I came without objection as soon as I was sent for. I ask, then, for what reason have you sent for me?"

verse 30 So Cornelius said, "Four days ago I was fasting until this hour; and at the ninth hour I prayed in my house, and behold, a man stood before me in bright clothing,

31 "and said, 'Cornelius, your prayer has been heard, and your alms are remembered in the sight of God.

32 'Send therefore to Joppa and call Simon here, whose surname is Peter. He is lodging in the house of Simon, a tanner, by the sea. When he comes, he will speak to you.'

33 "So I sent to you immediately, and you have done well to come. Now therefore, we are all present before God, to hear all the things commanded you by God."

\\Now we will take note, and see, God has put things together, and Peter begins to Preach to Cornelius household.

Verse 34 Then Peter opened his mouth and said: "In truth I perceive that God shows no partiality.

35 "But in every nation whoever fears Him and works righteousness is accepted by Him.

36 "The word which God sent to the children of Israel, preaching peace through Jesus Christ-- He is Lord of all--

Verse 37 "that word you know, which was proclaimed throughout all Judea, and began from Galilee after the baptism which John preached:

38 "how God anointed Jesus of Nazareth with the Holy Spirit and with power, who went about doing good and healing all who were oppressed by the devil, for God was with Him.

Acts 10:39 "And we are witnesses of all things which He did both in the land of the Jews and in Jerusalem, whom they killed by hanging on a tree.

40 "Him God raised up on the third day, and showed Him openly,

41 "not to all the people, but to witnesses chosen before by God, even to us who ate and drank with Him after He arose from the dead.

42 "And He commanded us to preach to the people, and to testify that, it is He who was ordained by God to be Judge of the living and the dead.

43 "To Him all the prophets witness that, through His name, whoever believes in Him will receive remission of sins."

44 While Peter was still speaking these words, the Holy Spirit fell upon all those who heard the word.

45 And those of the circumcision who believed were astonished, as many as came with Peter, because the gift of the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the Gentiles also.

\\Now We have read this background and what happened when God moved so mightily we come to this important verse as to what takes place when God moves so mightily.

\\So how did the people who came with Peter know the Holy Spirit had been poured out on the gentiles, the next verse tells us.

Verse 46 For they heard them speak with tongues and magnify God.

\\I have another comment by pastor Gary Kinnaman and he says, “Just as the Jewish believers received the Spirit and praised God in tongues at Pentecost these Gentile believers now received the identical gift.” Unquote -- End of Gary’s comment --------

\\So again we are talking about supernatural things, in the Book of Acts, that only God can do and definitely this qualifies as one of them.

God now has poured out his gift of the Holy Spirit on the gentiles.

Again, Prior to this, primarily only the Jewish people had received the Holy Spirit as evidenced by speaking in tongues.

\\With Christianity spreading like this, the obvious thing is bond to happen. Satan, the devil, God’s enemy, our adversary, will move on someone and try to stop what God is doing and sure enough he does.

By the way, the devil has moved on me a time or two. I’ll give you an example of that.

I was visiting a person in the hospital and this person was dying, at the time I did not know that. Anyway there was another lady there telling this person her belief in God and the anointing came upon her and she started talking rapidly with great empathy and as this was going on I interrupted her. The devil moved on me and later on I realized it, that it was the devil that inspired me to do that. As I look back I realize it was the Holy Spirit that was moving on her at that time and I should have been smarter and realized what was going on and kept my mouth shut, but I wasn’t aware of my surroundings.

I’ve had others do this to me also, I would be talking to someone about the things of the Lord and they would interrupt taking over the conversation and taking it in a different direction and not realizing they were being moved by the devil.

Here is an example in the bible of the devil moving on someone and it is King Herod. In Acts King Herod, in the first part of Chapter 12: verse 1- 11 he Kills James, and puts Peter in prison but Peter’s chains fall off. We will read about that.

Reading Acts chapter 12:1 and following

1 Now about that time Herod the king stretched out his hand to harass some from the church.

2 Then he killed James the brother of John with the sword.

3 And because he saw that it pleased the Jews, he proceeded further to seize Peter also. Now it was during the Days of Unleavened Bread.

4 So when he had apprehended him, he put him in prison, and delivered him to four squads of soldiers to keep him, intending to bring him before the people after Passover.

\\It is perfectly clear the devil is sure moving on Herod.

Verse 5 of chapter 12 Peter was therefore kept in prison, but constant prayer was offered to God, for him, by the church.

\\Here is that word prayer again. God hears every honest and sincere prayer.

Going on in chapter 12 to

verse 6 And when Herod was about to bring him out, that night Peter was sleeping, bound with two chains, between two soldiers; and the guards before the door were keeping the prison.

Verse 7 tells us Now behold, an angel of the Lord stood by him, and a light shone in the prison; and he struck Peter on the side and raised him up, saying, "Arise quickly!" And his chains fell off his hands.

\\Again remember, we are looking at supernatural things, that only God can do.

8 Then the angel said to him, "Gird yourself and tie on your sandals"; and so he did. And he said to him, "Put on your garment and follow me."

9 So he went out and followed him, and did not know that what was done by the angel was real, but thought he was seeing a vision.

\\ Today we would say, he thought he was dreaming.

10 When they were past the first and the second guard posts, they came to the iron gate that leads to the city, which opened to them of its own accord; and they went out and went down one street, and immediately the angel departed from him.

11 And when Peter had come to himself, (you might say when he came to his senses) he said, "Now I know for certain that the Lord has sent His angel, and has delivered me from the hand of Herod and from all the expectation of the Jewish people." (NKJ)

\\God isn’t going to let Herod get away with what he is doing and he doesn’t. God will move supernaturally as scripture just told us he did, the chains fell off Peter’s hands, and prison doors were opened.

\\Note: If you stand in God’s way, it’s not a good thing, it could turn out to be bad somewhere down the road as it did for Herod.

So still here in the same Chapter 12 Herod meets his fate, his Waterloo so to speak, and Herod is eaten by worms, what a fate. This is what transpires.

Acts 12:20 Now Herod had been very angry with the people of Tyre and Sidon; but they came to him with one accord, and having made Blastus the king's personal aide their friend, they asked for peace, because their country was supplied with food by the king's country.

Verse 21 So on a set day Herod, arrayed in royal apparel, sat on his throne and gave an oration to them.

\\The people started buttering him up so to speak because they want favor from him. So in verse 22 the bible tells us --

22 And the people kept shouting, "The voice of a god and not of a man!"

23 Then immediately an angel of the Lord struck him, because he did not give glory to God. And he was eaten by worms and died. (NKJ)

\\I would like to make a COMMENT at this time - Immediately this angel of the Lord struck him, well so much for Herod’s pride, that ended Herod’s persecution of Christians obliviously. As a Christian you will have things come against you, but if you are walking closely in God’s will and his ways, he will make a way for you, and you will be an overcomer, and you will come out a victor and succeed.

The devil has moves, but as the saying goes, you will find out that God always has one more move, one more move than the devil has. You may not see it immediately, but somewhere down the road, it will happen.

\\Here is a SECOND THOUGHT: If God uses you to bring a miracle to someone, GIVE GLORY TO GOD, don’t let that person think you did it by your own personal power. Be sure that person knows that you are only a conduit.

\\As we go further on: In the Book of Acts we are made aware of what God continues to do in building his church, using ordinary people, to do extra ordinary things, things that only God can do.

\\Has a precedent ever been set in God’s word pertaining to the end time church? Perhaps, and Acts chapter 13 could be an outline.

In Acts chapter 13 we see something similar happening (this is not exactly what will happen here in Cortland from what God has shared with us,) but the principle is somewhat similar.

From the church at Antioch God sent out others to spread the good news of the gospel with signs and wonders accompanying them. Keep in mind, it is God who does the sending.

\\We read about this in Acts chapter 13 verse 1 and following it says Acts 13:1 Now in the church that was at Antioch there were certain prophets and teachers: Barnabas, Simeon who was called Niger, Lucius of Cyrene, and Manaen who had been brought up with Herod the tetrarch, and Saul.

\\I will have to spell certain words now and then, because I don’t know how to pronounce them correctly. Anyway continuing on

Acts 13: verse 2 says and I am reading As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, the Holy Spirit said,

We don’t want to jump over this verse too fast, notice: THE HOLY SPIRIT SAID. Lets read that verse again.

2 As they ministered to the Lord and fasted, THE HOLY SPIRIT SAID

"Now separate to Me Barnabas and Saul for the work to which I have called them."

Verse 3 of Acts 13 Then, having fasted and prayed, and laid hands on them, they sent them away.

4 So, being sent out by the Holy Spirit, they went down to Seleucia, and from there they sailed to Cyprus.

\\As we continue on in the Book of Acts we see the other places that those that were sent out, travel to, and ministered the word of God.

The thing that gets my attention concerning these first 4 verses of chapter 13 is they were sent out BY THE HOLY SPIRIT from the church at Antioch to spread the gospel. They didn’t just run on their own thoughts, they were called and sent.

That reminds me of an old saying, be sure you are called and sent and that you didn’t just went.

One man in the Pentecostal church who is respected by many makes this comment and when you hear his observation you will understand why his views are respected. His name is Pastor Jack Hayford, he is senior pastor of Church on the Way and he comments about these first verses in chapter – 13 of Acts. Let’s take a look at his comment.

He titled his comment, Prayer and fasting birth signs and wonders.

Prayer. “The signs-and-wonders ministry of Paul and Barnabas was birthed as church leaders prayed, fasted, and sought the Lord. After the Holy Spirit himself had called the two men, the leaders laid hands upon them and sent them forth (13:1-4). Later Paul and Barnabas followed the same pattern, traveling from city to city, strengthening disciples and ordaining elders in the churches (14:verses 22, 23). What is the pattern? Every ministry sent forth is God’s intercessor, standing between the overflowing abundance of God, and the overwhelming need of humanity. Therefore, those who send them, must be moved by the Holy Spirit through prayer not by their own spirits, to send men and women whom God has anointed and appointed. I like the way pastor Hayford ends his comment - - He says, When today’s church discovers direction for, and advances all ministry in and through prayer, we will see opposition and unbelief bow before us as once again, God confirms his word with signs and wonders. (14:3).

\\So comments pastor Jack Hayford, who has several letters following his name and is Senior Pastor, of Church on the Way in Van Nuys, CA and he is the editor of the Spirit Filled Life Bible.

\\From what God has told the church here something similar is going to take place here, not exactly the same, but something similar but to a greater extent since his Holy Spirit has said, that we here would be an important part of his end time revival. God said multitudes would come here, and go from here, and spread the gospel, in his end time move and that revival would take place.

Also that his end time move is going to be many, many times greater than anything that has ever taken place on earth before, because we are in the very end days, and in his word the bible, he has laid out before us what will happen in the end days.

\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\

\\God has also told us that in his end time move that this church would be a part of that move that it will spread across the whole earth, one of the hubs actually, and that revival would start here and that there would be many other hubs but this church would be the axle that drives the hub and people would come here, and go from here, and carry out his end time revival. God called them the wheels that we were all attached together with the hubs, and that they would interlock together and all would be turning at the same time. Wheels that interlock together with the hub, people coming here and going out, and going back to where they came from and revival would take place in all the earth, with Signs and wonders taking place, multitudes giving their hearts to the Lord.

God has repeated this at other times in 1994 and 95, his plan by the power of his Holy Spirit confirming this word. Actually this is basically what you might say God is giving us a glimpse of what we will see in the end days, the revival that will take place all over the earth.

In CONCLUSION here in the book of Acts we have seen how God expanded his church, or in other words how he moved in various lives to accomplish what he wanted done by giving Cornelius direction, giving Peter a vision, then how the devil used Harold to come against his move, God putting a stop to it, and the church kept expanding with the believers praying and seeking God with God’s Holy Spirit directing them and telling them who to send out, and to continue to spread the good news with signs and wonders following, showering his Spirit on all the people that would accept him in their hearts.
