&   non OBEDIENCE (rebellion)

1 Samuel 15:1 TELLS US ABOUT THE FIRST KING OF ISRAEL. WE ARE GOING TO READ THE VERSES USING THE NEW KING JAMES VERSION.

1 Samuel 15:1  also said to Saul, "The LORD sent me to anoint you king over His people, over Israel. Now therefore, heed the voice of the words of the LORD.

2 "Thus says the LORD of hosts: 'I will punish Amalek for what he did to Israel, how he ambushed him on the way when he came up from Egypt.

3 'Now go and attack Amalek, and utterly destroy all that they have, and do not spare them. But kill both man and woman, infant and nursing child, ox and sheep, camel and donkey.'"

4 So Saul gathered the people together and numbered them in Telaim, two hundred thousand foot soldiers and ten thousand men of Judah.

5 And Saul came to a city of Amalek, and lay in wait in the valley.

6 Then Saul said to the Kenites, "Go, depart, get down from among the Amalekites, lest I destroy you with them. For you showed kindness to all the children of Israel when they came up out of Egypt." So the Kenites departed from among the Amalekites.

7 And Saul attacked the Amalekites, from Havilah all the way to Shur, which is east of Egypt.

8 He also took Agag king of the Amalekites alive, and utterly destroyed all the people with the edge of the sword.

9 But Saul and the people spared Agag and the best of the sheep, the oxen, the fatlings, the lambs, and all that was good, and were unwilling to utterly destroy them. But everything despised and worthless, that they utterly destroyed.

10 Now the word of the LORD came to Samuel, saying,

11 "I greatly regret that I have set up [[ Saul as king ]], for he has turned back from following Me, and [[ has not performed My commandments."]] And it grieved Samuel, and he cried out to the LORD all night.

12 So when Samuel rose early in the morning to meet Saul, it was told Samuel, saying, "Saul went to Carmel, and indeed, he set up a monument for himself; and he has gone on around, passed by, and gone down to Gilgal."

MOST PEOPLE AFTER WINNING A BATTLE SET UP AN ALTAR TO THE LORD GOD. THEY REALIZE THAT IT WAS GOD THAT GAVE THEM THE VICTORY. SO THEY GIVE GOD THE GLORY. LOOK AT THE VERSE WE JUST READ. WHAT IS SAUL DOING? SETTING UP A MONUMENT TO HIMSELF.

SEE SAUL'S PRIDE STICKING OUT ALL OVER THE PLACE.

1 Sam 15:13 Then Samuel went to Saul, and Saul said to him, "Blessed are you of the LORD! I have performed the commandment of the LORD."

14 But Samuel said, "What then is this bleating of the sheep in my ears, and the lowing of the oxen which I hear?"

15 And Saul said, "They have brought them from the Amalekites; for the people spared the best of the sheep and the oxen, to sacrifice to the LORD your God; and the rest we have utterly destroyed."

16 Then Samuel said to Saul, "Be quiet! And I will tell you what the LORD said to me last night." And he said to him, "Speak on."

17 So Samuel said, "When you were little in your own eyes, were you not head of the tribes of Israel? And did not the LORD anoint you king over Israel?

18 "Now the LORD sent you on a mission, and said, 'Go, and utterly destroy the sinners, the Amalekites, and fight against them until they are consumed.'

19 "Why then did you not obey the voice of the LORD? Why did you swoop down on the spoil, and do evil in the sight of the LORD?"

20 And Saul said to Samuel, "But I have obeyed the voice of the LORD, and gone on the mission on which the LORD sent me, and brought back Agag king of Amalek; I have utterly destroyed the Amalekites.

21 "But the people took of the plunder, sheep and oxen, the best of the things which should have been utterly destroyed, to sacrifice to the LORD your God in Gilgal."

22 Then Samuel said: "Has the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold,   to obey is better than sacrifice,   and to heed than the fat of rams.

THE WORD OBEY COMES FROM THE HEBREW WORD 8085 shama` (shaw-mah');

a primitive root; to hear intelligently (often with implication of attention, obedience, etc.; causatively, to tell

IT HAS BEEN SAID THAT OBEDIENCE COMES WHEN?-- YOU DO WHAT YOU DON'T WANT TO BUT YOU DO IT ANYWAY.

1 Sam 15:23  For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and [[ stubbornness ]] is as iniquity and idolatry. Because you have rejected the word of the LORD, he also has rejected you from being king." (NKJ)

WHAT IS ONE OF THE CHARACTERISTICS OF SAUL'S NATURE?

STRONGS DEFINITION OF THE WORD REBELLION COMES FROM THE HEBREW WORD 4805 meriy (mer-ee');

from 4784; bitterness, i.e. (figuratively) rebellion; concretely, bitter, or rebellious:

1 Sam 15:24 Then Saul said to Samuel, "I have sinned, for I have transgressed the commandment of the LORD and your words, because I feared the people and obeyed their voice.

OK SAUL SAYS HERE  THAT HE HAS PUT THE FEAR OF MAN OVER THE FEAR OF GOD. NOT A SMART THING TO DO..

1 Samuel 15:25 "Now therefore, please pardon my sin, and return with me, that I may worship the LORD."

26 But Samuel said to Saul, "I will not return with you, for you have rejected the word of the LORD, and the LORD has rejected you from being king over Israel."

27 And as Samuel turned around to go away, Saul seized the edge of his robe, and it tore.

28 So Samuel said to him, "The LORD has torn the kingdom of Israel from you today, and has given it to a neighbor of yours, who is better than you.

LOOK AT THIS. KING SAUL LOST HIS POWER AND AUTHORITY. WHY ??? BECAUSE HE DIDN'T DO WHAT GOD SAID. OH YES HE DID SOME THINGS BUT HE DIDN'T DO ALL OF WHAT GOD TOLD HIM TO DO. OR YOU COULD SAY HE DIDN'T DO IT GOD'S WAY ACCORDING TO GOD'S DIRECTION.

(COVID) VIRUS The Church stay open or close.   Interesting topic

God spoke to the pastor at RMMI and said he wanted his church open.

The bible Authority - CIVIL

Rom 13:1-5  CHAPTER 13  New King James

1 Let every soul be subject to the governing authorities. For there is no authority except from God, and the authorities that exist are appointed by God.

2 Therefore whoever resists the authority resists the ordinance of God, and those who resist will bring judgment on themselves.

3 For rulers are not a terror to good works, but to evil. Do you want to be unafraid of the authority? Do what is good, and you will have praise from the same.

4 For he is God's minister to you for good. But if you do evil, be afraid; for he does not bear the sword in vain; for he is God's minister, an avenger to execute wrath on him who practices evil.

5 Therefore you must be subject, not only because of wrath but also for conscience' sake.  (NKJ)

Authority - SPIRITUAL

Acts 3:1-9  CHAPTER 3 New King James

An Example:

1 Now Peter and John went up together into the temple at the hour of prayer, being the ninth hour.

2 And a certain man lame from his mother's womb was carried, whom they laid daily at the gate of the temple which is called Beautiful, to ask alms of them that entered into the temple;

3 Who seeing Peter and John about to go into the temple asked an alms.

4 And Peter, fastening his eyes upon him with John, said, Look on us.

5 And he gave heed unto them, expecting to receive something of them.

6 Then Peter said, Silver and gold have I none; but such as I have give I thee: In the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth rise up and walk.

7 And he took him by the right hand, and lifted him up: and immediately his feet and ancle bones received strength.

8 And he leaping up stood, and walked, and entered with them into the temple, walking, and leaping, and praising God.

9 And all the people saw him walking and praising God:  (KJV)

Peter & John explain in chapter four

Acts 4:1-3

1 Now as they spoke to the people, the priests, the captain of the temple, and the Sadducees came upon them,

2 being greatly disturbed that they taught the people and preached in Jesus the resurrection from the dead.

3 And they laid hands on them, and put them in custody until the next day, for it was already evening.  (NKJ)

Acts 4:5-19

5 And it came to pass, on the next day, that their rulers, elders, and scribes,

6 as well as Annas the high priest, Caiaphas, John, and Alexander, and as many as were of the family of the high priest, were gathered together at Jerusalem.

7 And when they had set them in the midst, they asked, "By what power or by what name have you done this?"

8 Then Peter, filled with the Holy Spirit, said to them, "Rulers of the people and elders of Israel:

9 "If we this day are judged for a good deed done to a helpless man, by what means he has been made well,

10 "let it be known to you all, and to all the people of Israel, that by the name of Jesus Christ of Nazareth, whom you crucified, whom God raised from the dead, by Him this man stands here before you whole.

11 "This is the 'stone which was rejected by you builders, which has become the chief cornerstone.'

12 "Nor is there salvation in any other, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved."

13 Now when they saw the boldness of Peter and John, and perceived that they were uneducated and untrained men, they marveled. And they realized that they had been with Jesus.

14 And seeing the man who had been healed standing with them, they could say nothing against it.

15 But when they had commanded them to go aside out of the council, they conferred among themselves,

16 saying, "What shall we do to these men? For, indeed, that a notable miracle has been done through them is evident to all who dwell in Jerusalem, and we cannot deny it.

17 "But so that it spreads no further among the people, let us severely threaten them, that from now on they speak to no man in this name."

18 And they called them and commanded them not to speak at all nor teach in the name of Jesus.

19 But Peter and John answered and said to them, "Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge. (NKJ)

Churches: Some some were open and some closed

On the nightly news there was a story about a church that was open and at choir practice many received the COVID virus.  Interesting.

On the morning Spectrum news there was a news story with a reporter interviewing people coming out of the church parking lot on Sunday in Ohio.  I don’t recall the correct name of the church  (it was something like (On The Rock Church or Solid Rock Church) anyway he was questioning the people coming out of the parking lot.  He said to one lady why are you going to church instead of staying home.  One lady replied to him “Psalm 91 READ IT".

He interviewed another man with the question, what if someone in there was sick, he replied there isn’t.  The interviewer said how do you know that?  He replied because I am the pastor.

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

Here in my area of upstate New York the government allowed Walmart and Lowe's to be open along with the liquor stores and I heard also the abortion clinic’s were allowed to be open too, but the government said churches were to be closed.   In light of that we read about Peter and John in Acts 4:19 “Whether it is right in the sight of God to listen to you more than to God, you judge".

Every man is going to have to stand before God some day and be accountable, is the government going to be there and stand accountable before God instead of you or I?

I think we all know the answer to that question is NO, it goes without saying.

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

There was a news item on the nightly news about a church choir practice where many got sick with the COVID virus certainly it wasn’t a good thing for them to be open.

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

Other churches God spoke to and were open, things went well for them.

It is very important to be open to the Spirit of God so he can speak to you and lead you into all truth.

2 Tim 2:15 Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth. (NKJ)

-  ><>  -  ><>  -   -  <><  -  <><  -

Also so important to know the word of God that you have understanding.  Ground yourself so you can stand on the word and he will lead you into all truth.  Churches shutting down don’t know where they stand. In this case it is important to know what God says in Psalm 91:1-10

1 He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty.

2 I will say of the LORD, "He is my refuge and my fortress; my God, in Him I will trust."

3 Surely He shall deliver you from the snare of the fowler and from the perilous pestilence.

4 He shall cover you with His feathers, and under His wings you shall take refuge; his truth shall be your shield and buckler.

5 You shall not be afraid of the terror by night, nor of the arrow that flies by day,

6 Nor of the pestilence that walks in darkness, nor of the destruction that lays waste at noonday.

7 A thousand may fall at your side, and ten thousand at your right hand; but it shall not come near you.

8 Only with your eyes shall you look, and see the reward of the wicked.

9 Because you have made the LORD, who is my refuge, even the Most High, your dwelling place,

10 No evil shall befall you, nor shall any plague come near your dwelling; (NKJ)
